Week 5 and 6 – The Heros Journey

It has been a week since I have wrote a weekly update so this one will have to be a double. I started writing scripts for my new business idea Learn it in 10 last week, and it has been going really well.
So far I have the rough outline for the following scripts.
Philosophy
Western Philosophy History part 1 (and some of part 2)
Physics
World History Part 1 (there will be two more parts)
Neuroscience
And today I started Buddhism
The idea behind LearnItIn10.com is to have a bunch of videos compressing really big ideas into a 10 minute video. I can do a bunch of directions with this idea and that is part of the reason I love it. Whatever I want to learn I go ahead and learn it, and then learn it better by teaching it. The videos themselves will spawn more videos, for example Physics in ten minutes will spawn relativity in ten minutes. The idea is to see which videos do the best and go from there. However I would also like to make bigger video series’s like learn it in 10 segments all of philosophy and potentially sell those or maybe just get it addictive enough where if someone watches one they will want to watch them all, turning 1 view into 10, 100 into 1000 and so on.
This Wednesday my roommate and one of my best buddies moved out of the apartment in Medellin. The next two days were the most productive and awesome days I have had in awhile. However, the next couple days after that reminded me how important human interaction is, as I realized being crammed up somewhere by yourself too long isn’t healthy.
I have been watching a lot of informational youtube videos for researching my scripts and for getting ideas, and I have found some really great ones. Shots of awe, CrashCourse and 3 minute philosophy (I forget the real name but its close to this).
I am also very excited to be going back to the United states in a little more then one day. This means better diet and nootropic experimentation…nothing could make me more excited right now.
My goal before I leave for Australia on the 25th is to have close to 20 (very) rough draft scripts.
And then the process of turning them into a video is as follows
1. Write rough Draft
2. Edit and optimize
3. Bring to professors or experts to get second opinion
4. Edit Optimize
5. Ask someone with litte knowledge in the field for feedback
6. Edit Optimize
7. Make a quick mock up tape
8. Send that tape to professors/ bloggers and other professionals get feedback
9. Edit and optimize
10. Do the one page info sheet
11. Release the Film
I will then see what parts are popular and do more videos based on that.
The topics I would like to have done are the first 20 (these topics may change as I come up with better or newer ideas)
1. Philosophy
2. Western Philosophy part 1
3. Western Philosophy part 2
4. World History part 1
5. World History part 2
6. World History part 3
7. Buddhism
8. Neuroscience
9. Biology
10. Microbiology
11. Guitar – (will be a 10 part and I think I will focus on this when I return from Brazil in May)
a. Blues Guitar
12. Psychology
13. Calculus
14. Algebra
15. Geometry
16. Trig
17. Christianity
18. World Religions
19. Eastern Philosophy
20. How to make money online
21. Marketing

24. Microeconomics
25. Jiu Jistsu – Could be a 10 part series
26. Portuguese – Could be a 10 part series
27. Spanish
28. Salsa
29. How to fight – also could be a 10 part series or a cracked article if I made it funny

43. How to reach enlightenment
44. The meaning of life

Week 4 Trial and Error

Last week was an interesting one for many reasons I tried modafinal, I bought bitcoins, I started a new workout regime, started really getting that good high from yoga, and a bunch of other way cooler stuff.

Modafinal was an interesting experience, but I think I did it wrong.  I took modafinal Sunday, which I had been planning to do all week.  The problem was Sunday for the 4 day in a row I woke up after a shitty night of sleep.  I decided screw it Ill take it anyway so I can have a productive day, big mistake.  Things went well at first, I did feel different, it was just I did not need to take breaks.  I think a lot of people understand this, but I seriously felt pretty normal, just how usually I want to check on my business or the value of bitcoin I did really want to as much.  And I usually need to take a break after an hour or so and move around, I just didn’t need to, it didn’t feel like the drug from limitless or anything crazy.  However that being said I would like to try it again after a night of good sleep.  I felt like it brought me to normal and then just a bit more, if I was already at normal it might be able to do some great things.  However, I experienced some shitty side affects that scare me to do it again.  I had a pain that felt like what I imagine the start of a migrane feels like, but it was a very weird and not something I want to experience again.  I will write up more about the experience and post it here.

I decided to buy bitcoings and got 10 at the price of around 773, so no I didn’t get that at a rock bottom price, but I took the plunge.  I have been tracking them like every hour and have started to see some trends in the price, however right now the price seems to max out at 840 or so and minimum of 770.  However things change quickly with bitcoin and some news could cause a huge swell, or a huge crash.  As of right now it seems like as soon as the price gets low it rebounds back up, so I have considered getting some bit coings when it goes back down to 770, however I think I want to wait till my bit coins get delieved (which happens on Friday).  I might do a quick write up on bitcoins and post it here.

In the body space I recently started a new workout which is based primarly on the joe defranco workout but has a touch Neaderthal No More, as I want to correct my muscle imbalances.  I will post my workout here with an explanation of why it works for me.  Also I have been really getting into yoga and keeping my yoga every day streak alive.  The real cool thing is that my yoga has gotten to this magical point that I wanted to get back to, where after I am done I feel amazing.  Not just happy but relaxed calm, collected more powerful both mentally and physically aswell just more in the moment.  When I accomplish this I really feel like the ultimate me I can be.

I also worked on the first youtube video I want to make which will be about learning basic Spanish in just ten minutes.  With each of these youtube videos I want to make a one page cheat sheet so the viewer can easily review the material covered in the video.  I also want to start doing this for me everytime I am learning something new, especially things like languages or other skills.

Another random side note is I started the new Malcolm Gladwell book David and Goliath, which is awesome and a must read for everyone, but especially those of us in our 20’s,  Its all about how being on top isn’t always what it is cracked up to be, and sometimes what we perceive as a disadvantage is actually an advantage.

Goals and Ideas for this week:

  1. Start recording everytime I spell a word wrong, and practicing spelling those words right.  Everytime I spell a (English) word wrong I will record it in a notepad, then when I get enough I will use some different techniques and quiz my self at the end of the week to make sure I really have them down.
  2. There is an app for continuing habbits I need to check out.
  3. I need to work on creating incentives to get more of the random tasks I want done, done (especially learnings).
  4. Continue to work on duolingo and try and get a pretty sizable chunk done, I would like to finish this before I leave Colombia but I think that will be a challenge.
  5. Finish up the Australian visa process
  6. Finish sending and dealing with all the emails I sent out for my business.

Week 3 – Getting Out And About

This week I have been thinking a lot about the next 6 months or so, specifically what I am going to do, and where I am going to live.  As of right now it looks like I will be living in Rio De Janerio come late February early March.  After that I will probably go back home to work on my YouTube channel, and my ecommerce business.

This last week and today I have been working on my website.  No major news there but I am getting a little bit more excited to work on it more when I move back home.  The major tasks I have to do are as follows.

1.  Look at the adwords and work some magic.
2.  Send out emails to all the new emails
3.  Organize the studio email list
4.  Organize the blog email list and respond
5.  Work on the mobile page
6.  Work on the about us page

This week, in fact tomorrow I want to do the preliminary one pager for Spanish level 1 and level 2 (these levels are based on the YouTube videos I found).  I also have the opportunity to try out Modifinal, and will probably use it to study Spanish and make a YouTube script for it.

One thing I want to start doing to improve my Spanish is watching movies in Spanish.  I am also working on dulingo which I think has a lot of promise.

Here is a short list of my goals for the upcoming week

1.  Make a one pager for Spanish level 1
2.  Make a one pager for Spanish level 2
3.  Work on duolingo

Week 2 – New Spanish Learning Methods and Business Ideas

The last week has been interesting.

I have made a lot of progress in some of the fields I was trying to work on.  I have also learned a lot about what I want out of life, and maybe more importantly what I want out of the next 6 or so months.

One thing that has dramatically changed is I have been introduced to the idea of using youtube as a media to convey the knowledge I want to share with the world.  I would like all posts that are not about me to feature a video component.  I also would like to start some youtube channels.  The youtube channel I am the most excited to start doing is a series where I will take things that I learn and break them down into a 10 minutes worth of youtube videos (most likely broken down into smaller videos for various reasons).   I of course will start a channel for stuff from this blog as well.

I have also found some more material on learning spanish that I am very excited to start using.  Here is a video series with four volumes in it to learn spanish and goes over all the grammar.

My new optimal strategy for learning a new langugage that I will test out soon is as follows

1.  1000-2000 most common words flashcards – Spanishpod101.com
2.  Video Series on grammar
3.  Pimsleur with duolingo
4.  Live mocha to talk with native speakers
5.  If you are in that country use a dating site to start practicing

I would like to move to start a new start up that I have been thinking about for awhile, however I think I am going to postpone this till I get some traction with youtube and this blog.

I have also downloaded a dvd on how to dance salsa and would like to outline a practice method which I will upload here.

Goals for the week

I would like to by the end of week have a one pager of most important things to know for both spanish and salsa.

Continue will all long term learning tasks (which I have been).

Try and do Yoga everyday, and learn more about salsa (in the future do a one pager on this).  Last week I did yoga 5 out of 7 days.

Continue to try and meditate every day, last week I did this 5 out of 7 days.

Get a new workout plan started and find the optimal workout plan.

Outline my first video for both the learnin10 and the last post I did, try and get at least the last post video filmed.

Thoughts on last week

Its really hard to do yoga or meditate when I drink the night before.

The Journey Begins

Today I turn 25, this day marks the halfway point of my 20’s, and to me in many ways is a big landmark.  The last 5 years have been quite a journey, and I know the next 5 years will have even more in store for me then I can possibly imagine.  I think I have spent the last 5 years fairly well, even though I’ve made more than my fair share of mistakes.  With this website I plan to take the next 5 years and figure out how to live them optimally in every aspect that I can.

I am a 25 year old entrepreneur currently living in Medellin, Colombia.  I quit my job earlier this year to pursue my dream of freedom, freedom to live my life how I please.  Since then I have automated my income, traveled the world, and learned more than I ever could have imagined.  This website will focus on knowledge and on how to live life to its best, which I will not claim to be an expert on yet.  I will claim to have a stronger desire to find out how to do so more than almost anyone you know.  This website will focus on self-development as well as acquiring for the readers new knowledge, and testing the theories of in all asects of life.

I’ve done a lot in the last 5 years.  I got into my dream college, got my dream job, realized it wasn’t my dream, created a business, struggled with that business, made it profitable.  I’ve traveled to 15 different countries, lived in three separate major metropolitan cities in the U.S. and of course I am currently living in Colombia.  I say this not to brag, but as a tool of comparison, because even though the last 5 years have been great, I am going to make the next 5 even more amazing.

I will use this website to do two primary things, track my personal progress in my goals, and share with you the knowledge I have acquired in every aspect of my life.

I have less than 6 more weeks left in Colombia and have the following Goals for my time here

  1.  Get my Spanish as good as possible
  2. Learn Salsa
  3. Meet, date and enjoy the beautiful Colombian women

Here are some of just the few long term goals I have

  1. Get my body in peak physical condition
  2. Fix all bodily injuries and imbalances
  3. Enhance my mind
  4. Increase my business profitability
  5. Increase my social skills in all areas
  6. Increase my confidence
  7. Gain knowledge in all academic fields of interest
  8. Experience as many of the pleasures of life as possible

I have for the purposes of this website I will break the articles into mind, body, social, business and knowledge.

Here is an action plan for the short term (the time I have left in Colombia).

Mind

Dedicate to mediating at least once a day for ten minutes.

I am also going to start a personal journey to understanding yoga more, and I will do yoga for at least an hour a day for 42 days straight as well as trying to learn about it.

Body

Get down a stretching routine for post workout everyday.  Will post here

Continue to gain muscle but more importantly work on balancing my body out as much as possible.

Knowledge

Work intensively on my Spanish, minimum of 2 hours a day.
Finish the 2000 most common words flashcards
Finish the textbook I bought on Spanish
Live mocha
Chat/Talk in Spanish as much as possible.
Create a more specific course plan for Spanish.

Continue taking coursera classes, I am currently taking Marketing , Philosophy 101, and a leadership course based on emotional intelligence

Complete way of the superior man, add notes here.

Continue with a number of audio books and ttc courses including one about Confucius, Buddha, Mohamed and Jesus, the one on the new mind, and the stroke of insight.

Continue to work on my Salsa skills

Social

Try and talk to as many people though out my day as possible, will come up with more metrics on this later.

Business

Work extensively on getting up notes for as many books and other educational material I have experienced as possible on this website.

Work on getting my personal business (you know the one that actually makes money) featured on as many blogs as possible.

This will be a start and I will update every Monday on my progress here moving forward.
